Good Question. High altitude sickness is what happens to your body when you reach altitudes higher than that in which you normally reside. The effects will differ from person to person as will the severity.
High altitude sickness really stems back to oxygen. The oxygen level at 8000 feet is a lot different than they are at 1000 feet above sea level. To be more specific, there is a lot less oxygen in the air the higher up you go and the effects your body feels are typically related to this lack of oxygen.
