Jet Lag and Gender?

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Its a valid question, will Jack or JIll experience more Jet Lag Effects.  Let’s take a look.

Who Will Experience More Jet Lag?

Who Will Experience More Jet Lag?

The severity of jet lag is commonly known to be caused by how many time zones crossed, direction of travel, hydration levels, noise, temperature levels, and amount of sleep before travel.

Questions of gender and age haven’t commonly been considered when trying to determine jet lag severity.  Let’s see which sex and age is more prone to jet lag.

Recent studies on air force crews have tested the effects of jet lag on gender.  The data showed that 33% of individuals tested suffered from jet lag.  According to the study jet lag severity was not found to be influenced by gender on a consistent basis.  However, it was found that if there was a difference in the reference period females were more susceptible to jet lag than males.

So no real difference between the genders, however in the same study age did seem to play a part in jet lag severity.  Specifically, the severity was found in sleep patterns.

Individuals who were 35 years of age or younger were reported to have a lessened affect from Jet Lag.  As we age the severity of jet lag only gets worse and our sleep patterns will become more interrupted.  At the end of the day however, all this is moot, because we have not discover ways to help combat these jet lag effects both through supplementation and proper planning, but that’s a whole another blog post

Airline Pilot Backs Travelers Defense!

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Hot off the presses, We Got Ourselves A Testimonial!

Sure, sure we get testimonials all the time, but this one was different.

This time it was not some ordinary business traveler or couple on a weekend getaway (although we love those folks too!).  No, not this time.  This time we received a testimonial from a commercial airline pilot for one of the countries largest airlines!

Delta Airlines

Delta Airlines

It turns out that our pilot likes to travel a bit himself in his spare time but does not have the luxury of a great deal of time at his destinations, typically just a few days.  That being said he cannot afford to lose precious time suffering from jet lag or sick in bed, so he turned to us for the solution and here is what he had to say……

“I work as a commercial airline pilot so jet lag is something I’m always dealing with. I recently took a four day vacation to Rome and the last thing I wanted was to lose a day trying to recover from the flight. Using the product, my time zone transitions were seamless. I had a fantastic trip and was ready to get back to work when I came home. I definitely recommend Travelers Defense to anyone trying to get the most out of their travels.”

-Commercial Pilot (Delta Air Lines)

Thank you Mike for the kind words and we are glad to be of service to you and your industry.

Well, its gonna be tough to top a testimonial from an airline pilot when your product is for jet lag, but we’ll keep trying!

Although this is a tough testimonial to top, we got a few the other day from some Australians that are well…..lets just say they were written in the “native tongue,” we’ll have to share them with you soon.

Stay tuned and be sure to leave a comment below, your opinion matters to us.

How to Wake Up Correctly to Avoid Jet Lag

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Yes, there is actually a science behind waking up.  Waking up is not just what you experience, but also the biological process that your body goes through during this period.  There is a lot more going on than you think.

sleeping

Recent research at John Moore University in Liverpool sheds some light on how this process can affect travelers.

At different times of day, your body operates at different performance levels.  From 7-11 am your body’s blood pressure is at its highest levels of the day.  This is caused by the higher viscosity of the blood during these times making it hard to push through the veins and arteries that are also constricted at these times.  Also, between the hours of 3-6 am, the body hits its lowest core temperature and experiences a heightened sensitivity to pain.  This is oddly enough why the majority of natural births occur in the early hours of the morning, but that’s neither here nor there.

So what does all this have to do with travel and jet lag?

Well its means that until your body adjusts to its new time zone, it will still be operating under its preexisting conditions.  Meaning, that you should avoid strenuous activity from 7-11 in your original time zone due to your blood viscosity.  In addition, avoid anything that would require an increased level of brain activity or anything that would overstimulate the senses.  This will help aid your body in a smoother transition to its new time zone and thus decreasing or avoiding the jet lagged affect all together.

Jet Lag and Baseball?

Could your baseball team be losing games because of jet lag?

Baseball-Banner_banner

A recent study published by Healthy Day on Us News and World Report addresses this very issue, and the results might shock you!

The report states that a study of baseball scores of a 10 year period shows that a team is more likely to lose a game when they were severely jet lagged.  A game here and a game there may not seem like a lot, but when October rolls around, the season can often come down to just one or two games.

Dr. Christopher Winter and his team studied over 24,000 baseball scores and the number of time zones crossed.  Using the scale of one day of adjustment per time zone crossed they made these discoveries.  They found that teams lost 60% of games when they were at a 3 hour disadvantage and 52% of games when they were at a 2 hour disadvantage.

So think about that how much money could hinge on 1 or two games?  If your team goes to the playoffs that’s millions in extra revenue for your organization and city.  It might be worth looking into some jet lag prevention and I might just know a product………..

Until next time,

Poised To Revolutionize The Jet Lag and Travel Industry

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

To christen in the new blog I wanted to tell the story of how Travelers Defense came to exist and why it is going to revolutionize the travel industry.

Travelers Defense Storytime

Travelers Defense Storytime

It all started circa 2008 when three friends got together to talk about their passions which happened to all be travel.  Two of the friends worked as outside sales reps at large companies and traveled the world on business most of the week and on then again on the weekends for pleasure.  The third member although not an sales rep, was also a chronic world traveler and with this as their background they began to brainstorm.

They talked about all the phenomenal places they had been and even more about the places they wanted to visit until finally they started to see a few common threads.  Travel sickness, jet lag and insomnia were just a few of the recurring themes.  They talked about home remedies for these ailments and even a few over the counter “cures” and came to a few realizations.

1. They didn’t really work that well.  Most of the remedies or cures were either placebos or old wives tales.

2. They were costly and time consuming

This is essentially where Travelers Defense was born, out of the necessity for a holistic travel supplement that you could take to protect your self from jet lag, altitude sickness, airborne pathogens and travel insomnia.  So the three friends went out on a search to learn everything there was to know about these ailments.

Along the way, the three friends learned a great deal about things they never really knew existed.  From circadian rhythms and air cabin pressure to recirculated air and health codes, they studied it all.  After they decided that it was possible and had a plan on how to execute, they enlisted the help of one of the nations largest nutritional manufactures to help them perfect the blend.

and….Viola!  Several months later, Travelers Defense was born.  Already a favorite amount top level executives and CEO’s, Travelers Defense is poised and ready to revolutionize the way you travel.  No longer do you have to carry around 5-6 bottles of pills just to enjoy your flight.  Now all you need is Travelers Defense and you can kick back and enjoy your travels.
